Brewing Operator at AB InBev Africa

AB InBev Africa is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Brewing Operator in Arusha. The role involves operating manual brewing equipment and managing brewing processes that are not controlled through PLC systems. The successful candidate will also support maintenance, asset-care activities, production quality, and operational efficiency within the brewing environment.

The Brewing Operator will work closely with the Brewing Technician Artisan, Brewing Technician Operator, and Brewing Team Leader to monitor production, conduct quality checks, identify equipment problems, reduce waste, and maintain a safe and clean working environment. The position also requires participation in autonomous maintenance, problem-solving, shift meetings, and continuous improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Operate designated brewing plant and equipment.

• Support the plant control system under the direction of the Brewing Team Leader.

• Monitor process performance against targets.

• Record short stops and take corrective action when performance falls below target.

• Record waste and product movement using appropriate systems.

• Review waste trends to identify problems and improvement opportunities.

• Conduct required quality checks and analyses.

• Respond quickly to upstream or downstream conditions that could affect production or quality.

• Apply appropriate problem-solving procedures.

• Perform housekeeping duties using 4S principles and safe work practices.

• Identify and correct unsafe working practices.

• Assist fellow team members with their assigned tasks.

• Carry out detailed cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of equipment according to work instructions and the autonomous maintenance schedule.

• Perform simple autonomous maintenance tasks, including replacement of simple valves.

• Request assistance from the Process Artisan when required.

• Identify defective equipment and report it to the Process Artisan or Team Leader.

• Record quality results in the appropriate information system.

• Follow quality checks specified in relevant work instructions.

• Apply 5Y’s and quick-fix routines when quality problems occur.

• Participate actively in shift meetings.

• Ask questions, provide suggestions, and contribute to discussions.

• Use the gap list to record issues, problems, and improvement opportunities.

• Understand team goals and participate in goal-review sessions.

• Use communication tools such as the shift logbook to communicate operational issues.

• Complete proper handovers to incoming team members.

• Communicate plant performance, quality, and maintenance issues during shift handovers.

• Use 5Y’s and quick-fix routines to identify possible causes of problems.

• Report identified issues to the Process Artisan and/or Team Leader.

• Provide information to teams conducting problem-solving activities or FFAs when required.

• Identify sources of waste.

• Report waste sources and improvement opportunities to the Team Leader.

Qualifications Required

• Level 4 Literacy.

• Level 4 Numeracy.

• Grade 12 qualification.

• IBD Certificate.

• Completed Brewing Learnership.

• CAP/SKAP completed and assessed summatively within the past 12 months.

• 2–5 years of experience in a brewing environment.

• Relevant prior AB InBev experience.

• Mechanical aptitude.

• Machine-specific experience.

• Previous experience in a process-controlled manufacturing environment, preferably within food or FMCG.

• PC literacy, particularly Microsoft applications and SAP.

• Understanding of the brewing process value chain is preferred, from raw-material transfer through BBT, including E&F through to Packaging.
