AB InBev Africa is seeking a qualified and technically capable professional for the position of Packaging Operator in Arusha. The role focuses on safely operating and maintaining packaging equipment and related processes to achieve high levels of production effectiveness, quality, productivity, and equipment performance.
The successful candidate will operate manual and automatic packaging machines, monitor production processes, conduct quality checks, identify and report equipment defects, and support maintenance activities. The position also requires shift work, effective problem-solving, accurate production documentation, and active participation in team meetings and continuous improvement activities.
Responsibilities

Operate packaging equipment and manage associated packaging processes and performance.

Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Interpret and implement the production plan for each shift.
-
Operate manual and automatic machines according to established standards.
-
Monitor production processes and correct negative performance trends.
-
Ensure process quality and productivity.
-
Operate packaging process equipment according to VPO standards.
-
Review process performance against targets.
-
Record short stops and correct out-of-control conditions using VPO tools.
-
Record waste and movement of products using the appropriate documentation or information systems.
-
Review production trends to identify and resolve problems.
-
Complete operator workstation administration and take required action.
-
Complete Team Room administration as required.
-
Contribute to personal and professional development.
-
Manage PIMS and POMS and take corrective action when negative trends occur.
-
Use QFRs according to established triggers.
-
Complete 5 WHYs investigations with relevant team members when required.
-
Contribute to AB reports as required.
-
Use VPO problem-solving tools to resolve and record operational issues.
-
Carry out autonomous operations as defined for the relevant process areas.
-
Identify defective plant or equipment and report issues to the Process Artisan or Team Leader.
-
Assist the Process Artisan or Machine Specialist with running repairs during shifts.
-
Conduct required quality checks and analyses.
-
Record quality results in the appropriate information system.
-
Take corrective action based on quality results using VPO tools.
-
Participate actively in shift meetings.
-
Ask questions, contribute suggestions, and use action logs to record issues and improvement opportunities.
-
Understand the team objectives and contribute towards achieving them.
-
Use communication tools such as shift logbooks to stay informed and communicate operational issues.
-
Complete proper handovers to incoming shift teams.
-
Communicate issues relating to plant performance, quality, and maintenance during shift handovers.
-
Conduct autonomous operations and support continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications Required
-
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering.
-
Mechanical aptitude.
-
Machine-specific experience.
-
Technical qualification such as N3 or equivalent.
-
Experience within the packaging or FMCG industry.
-
Post-Matric qualification or equivalent, such as N4 National Diploma or equivalent.
-
IOB Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical fields is an advantage.
-
Ability and willingness to work shifts.
-
Ability to operate and maintain defined packaging equipment and related processes.

Ability to maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
-
Ability to interpret and implement production plans.
