Research Assistant – 4 Positions

Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) is inviting applications for four Research Assistant positions to support the KUPAA research study in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. This full-time opportunity is ideal for experienced health and social science professionals with strong qualitative and quantitative research skills who are passionate about ethical, participant-centered research.

The successful candidates will work closely with psychiatry clinic staff, clinicians, patients, and caregivers to support participant recruitment, data collection, study documentation, and research management while ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and human subjects protection standards.

Responsibilities

• Screen potential participants using study inclusion and exclusion criteria.

  

• Document eligibility and enrolled participants while maintaining confidentiality.

• Conduct informed consent procedures and respond to participant questions.

• Carry out in-depth interviews and administer quantitative surveys.

• Coordinate scheduling of clinician-rated PANSS assessments.

• Maintain study documentation, consent forms, case report forms, and regulatory records.

• Assist with qualitative coding, codebook development, and data analysis.

• Contribute to IRB submissions, activity plans, and progress reports.

• Attend study training, team meetings, and weekly Zoom meetings.

• Ensure compliance with study protocols, ethical standards, and GCP requirements.

• Support daily study coordination and perform additional duties assigned by the study team.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Demography, or another related field.

• Minimum of three years of relevant research experience.

• Experience in both qualitative and quantitative data collection.

• Experience with transcription and translation between English and Swahili.

• Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work sensitively with patients and caregivers, including individuals experiencing cognitive decline or psychotic symptoms.

• Strong organizational, time-management, and computer skills.

• Proficiency in English and Swahili.

• Experience with REDCap and previous health-related research is an added advantage.
