Architect

Doris Mollel Foundation (DMF) is seeking a registered architect or qualified architectural firm to support the design and construction supervision of institutional and healthcare facilities in Dar es Salaam. The engagement is offered on a contract basis and focuses on delivering functional, safe, compliant, and patient-centered facilities.

The successful applicant should have substantial experience leading healthcare or institutional projects from initial concept through completion. The role also requires strong multidisciplinary coordination, preparation of technical documentation, and knowledge of national healthcare facility design standards.

About the Role

The Architect will lead architectural design and construction supervision while ensuring that healthcare facilities are appropriately planned for patients, families, and healthcare workers. Particular attention is required for clinical spaces, patient movement, infection prevention, maternity facilities, and newborn units.

Applicants working as landscape architects may also demonstrate expertise in site planning, stormwater management, external works, green spaces, and the development of safe and healing outdoor environments around healthcare facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and construction supervision of institutional or healthcare facilities from concept through completion.

• Develop functional plans for clinical spaces.

  

• Consider patient flow when designing healthcare facilities.

• Incorporate appropriate infection-prevention layouts.

  

• Plan maternity and newborn units effectively.

• Ensure compliance with national health-facility design standards and requirements.

  

• Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams.

• Prepare complete working drawings.

• Prepare tender documentation.

• Supervise construction activities and ensure designs are implemented appropriately.

• For landscape architecture assignments, undertake site planning and external works design.

• Plan stormwater management and outdoor spaces.

• Incorporate green spaces and landscaping into healthcare environments.

• Design safe, healing, and patient- and family-friendly outdoor environments.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Registration as an architect or be a registered architectural firm.

• AQRB registration or equivalent professional registration in good standing.

• At least 5 years of experience leading the design and construction supervision of institutional or healthcare facilities.

• Experience managing projects from concept through completion.

• A portfolio demonstrating comparable completed projects.

• Proven experience planning clinical spaces.

• Knowledge of patient-flow requirements.

• Experience incorporating infection-prevention layouts.

• Experience with maternity and newborn unit planning.

• Knowledge of national health-facility design standards and requirements.

• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams.

• Ability to produce full working drawings and tender documentation.

• For landscape architects, experience in site planning, stormwater and external works.

• Experience designing green and outdoor spaces around healthcare facilities.

• Experience creating safe, healing, patient- and family-friendly environments.

• Relevant national or international professional certifications, such as AQRB, Architects Association of Tanzania, RIBA, or equivalent.

• Green-building credentials such as LEED or EDGE are an advantage.
