Data Protection Officer

NCBA Tanzania is inviting applications from qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Data Protection Officer in Dar es Salaam. The role offers an opportunity for a compliance professional to support the bank in strengthening data protection practices, regulatory compliance, consumer protection, and risk management.

The Data Protection Officer will work closely with management, employees, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure that personal data is handled in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will also support data protection risk assessments, compliance monitoring, staff awareness, regulatory reporting, and continuous improvement of the bank’s data protection programme.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement data protection systems, mechanisms, and procedures in line with local and international data protection laws.

  

• Define data protection compliance obligations for different functional areas and departments.

• Allocate data protection responsibilities across the bank.

  

• Assist employees in understanding and applying relevant data protection laws.

• Keep staff informed about changes in legislation and industry developments.

  

• Recommend improvements to systems and procedures to strengthen the bank’s data protection programme.

• Coordinate and maintain relationships with regulators under the supervision of the Compliance Manager.

  

• Facilitate communication and information gathering concerning data protection obligations.

• Conduct annual data protection risk assessments.

• Prepare reports on the bank’s data protection compliance status.

• Provide timely and accurate reports to management, regulators, and other stakeholders.

• Deliver and facilitate training on compliance and financial risk matters.

• Ensure timely responses to stakeholder queries in accordance with established SLAs.

• Support the resolution of data protection and compliance-related matters.

• Monitor compliance-related expenses and ensure costs remain within the approved budget.

• Identify personal development and training needs and support continuous professional development.

Qualifications and Requirements

• University degree.

• 1.5–3 years of working experience in a banking environment.

• Sound exposure to banking operations and regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Knowledge and capability in data protection compliance.

• Knowledge of data protection laws and regulations.

• Knowledge of regulatory compliance and consumer protection.

• Understanding of risk assessment and compliance monitoring.

• Knowledge of regulatory reporting and banking operations.

• Ability to develop policies and procedures.

• Knowledge of data protection training and awareness.

• Strong stakeholder management skills.

• Knowledge of regulatory relations.

• Understanding of compliance risk management.

• Strong report preparation skills.

• Good communication and presentation abilities.
