Business Development Manager

NBC Tanzania is seeking an experienced and results-oriented professional to join its team as a Business Development Manager in Mtwara. The role focuses on driving growth in loans and advances, deposits and alternative banking products while expanding the branch customer base and strengthening relationships with existing customers.

The successful candidate will lead sales activities at branch level and support, coach and monitor Branch Sales Officers against agreed performance targets. The role also involves customer acquisition, deposit mobilization, product cross-selling, loan portfolio management, market intelligence and ensuring compliance with banking regulations and risk management requirements.

Responsibilities

• Identify, solicit and recruit potential customers to grow the branch customer base.

• Complete KYC and risk reviews for prospective customers.

  

• Open new customer accounts in accordance with bank procedures.

• Regularly visit existing customers and address their business needs and queries.

  

• Ensure customer acquisition points operate effectively.

• Identify sectors and geographical areas with strong business growth potential.

• Work with the Business Development Partner to develop suitable products and solutions.

• Proactively mobilize deposits from customers.

• Supervise deposit mobilization campaigns to achieve branch targets.

• Cross-sell banking products, including mobile banking, internet banking, agent banking, insurance, deposits, loans, foreign exchange and transfers.

• Collect market intelligence on competitors, products and service levels.

• Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers.

• Manage customer business contacts and corporate social engagements.

• Work with Corporate and Institutional Banking and Business Banking teams to identify retail opportunities.

• Maintain a database of high-net-worth customers.

• Monitor branch business growth using key performance indicators.

• Manage loan turnaround times.

• Take responsibility for the branch retail loan portfolio, including PAR and NPL performance.

• Provide information and reports to Stressed Asset Management Units.

• Support loan recovery efforts at branch level.

• Coach and mentor Branch Sales Officers.

• Monitor and report sales team performance against agreed KPIs.

• Participate in budgeting for branch sales-related activities.

• Prepare reports and business proposals for management approval.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

• At least three years of banking experience.

• Broad knowledge of banking practices and products.

• Good understanding of banking regulations.

• Strong customer service and customer relationship management skills.

• People management and team leadership skills.

• Strong analytical skills.

• Strong selling and cross-selling abilities.

• Knowledge of Bank of Tanzania regulations.

• Understanding of banking risk management.

• Ability to drive business growth and achieve sales targets.
