Reconciliation Officer

NBC Tanzania is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join its team as a Reconciliation Officer in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on performing accurate and timely reconciliations of suspense, digital, Nostro, settlement and other general ledger accounts while supporting strong financial controls and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will investigate discrepancies, resolve outstanding reconciliation items, maintain proper supporting documentation and work closely with branches, finance, operations and technology teams. The position also contributes to loss prevention, operational risk management, audit support and accurate management reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily reconciliations of assigned accounts and products.

• Identify unmatched, aged and exceptional items in a timely manner.

  

• Investigate discrepancies using source documents, transaction reports and system postings.

• Recommend appropriate corrective actions for identified discrepancies.

  

• Work with branches, operations, finance, technology and other teams to obtain explanations and supporting evidence.

• Validate the ownership, ageing and risk impact of reconciliation items.

  

• Escalate material, long-outstanding and high-risk exceptions to the appropriate supervisor or manager.

• Maintain reconciliation templates, supporting evidence and exception trackers.

  

• Support branches and process owners with reconciliation and balancing requirements.

• Maintain complete and retrievable reconciliation records for management review and audit purposes.

• Identify control weaknesses, operational risk events, unusual trends and potential fraud indicators.

• Comply with KYC, AML, sanctions and other regulatory and internal control requirements.

• Support internal and external audits by providing accurate reconciliation evidence and explanations.

• Prepare or support management reports covering reconciliation status, outstanding items, ageing and root causes.

• Comply with information security, confidentiality, access control and segregation-of-duties requirements.

• Identify skills gaps and participate in relevant learning and development activities.

• Contribute to continuous improvement in reconciliation quality, timeliness and stakeholder service.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.

• At least one year of relevant experience in reconciliation, banking operations, finance operations, branch operations or a related control function.

• Understanding of suspense, digital, settlement, Nostro and general ledger account operations.

• Knowledge of reconciliation processes and exception management.

• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.

• High attention to detail, accuracy and completeness.

• Good understanding of accounting principles and bank account reconciliation.

• Knowledge of internal controls and operational risk management.

• Understanding of KYC, AML, sanctions and relevant banking compliance requirements.

• Ability to manage multiple reconciliations within strict deadlines.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with different departments.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including filtering, pivot tables, lookups and basic data analysis.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills.

• Basic analytical thinking and digital familiarity.
