Job Description

Vodacom Tanzania Plc is inviting applications from qualified and experienced technology professionals for the position of Software Engineer: VoMS & USSD in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on software development, system operations, product and service configuration, application support, and security compliance for VoMS and USSD platforms.

About the Role

The Software Engineer: VoMS & USSD will be responsible for supporting the development, configuration, operation, and security of VoMS and USSD systems. The role requires close attention to system reliability, software development processes, change management, and service delivery.

The position also involves supporting new products and services, maintaining applications, participating in projects, and ensuring that systems comply with relevant security and operational requirements.

Job Responsibilities

The Software Engineer: VoMS & USSD will be responsible for:

  • Managing the operations and engineering activities of VoMS and USSD systems.

  • Supporting the availability, performance, and reliability of VoMS and USSD platforms.

  • Managing changes to VoMS and USSD systems in accordance with approved change-management procedures.

  • Supporting product and service development on VoMS and USSD platforms.

  • Configuring products and services on VoMS and USSD systems.

  • Providing application and operations support.

  • Supporting VoMS and USSD technology projects.

  • Supporting software development activities throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Ensuring systems and applications comply with security requirements.

  • Supporting security and compliance activities related to the systems.

  • Troubleshooting technical and application-related issues.

  • Working with APIs and system integrations.

  • Supporting continuous integration and continuous delivery activities.

  • Working with development teams and other stakeholders to maintain reliable software environments.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • At least 2 years of experience in system support and software development.

  • Good knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.

  • Good knowledge of database management systems.

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Python, JavaScript, PHP, Java, or Golang.

  • Knowledge of programming and scripting languages including Java, Golang, Groovy, and Python.

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, XP, LSD, and FDD.

  • Knowledge of service management.

  • Knowledge of change management.

  • Project management skills.

  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with APIs.

  • Understanding of Agile software development practices.

  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) methodologies and tools.

  • Knowledge of software development environments.

  • Knowledge of core internet and networking protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, FTP, SSH, and SMPP.

  • Knowledge of code repositories, branching strategies, and collaborative development workflows using Version Control System tools.

  • Experience with relational database management systems such as MariaDB, MySQL, Oracle, and SQL.

  • Knowledge of non-relational databases such as MongoDB.

  • Experience or knowledge in administering Unix/Linux and Windows Server operating systems.

  • Knowledge of cloud-native technologies.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Knowledge of GSM technologies.

  • Knowledge of Fintech technologies.

  • Knowledge of AI tools and their applications.
