Job Description

NBC Tanzania is seeking a Branch Credit Analyst to support sound lending decisions by reviewing, challenging, and approving credit applications within delegated authority limits. The role serves as an important credit-risk control point, ensuring that lending decisions support business growth while maintaining prudent risk management and compliance with NBC policies and regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will assess credit proposals, evaluate borrowers’ financial and risk profiles, review collateral and security arrangements, and determine appropriate lending conditions. The position also involves guiding Credit Analysts, monitoring approved facilities, identifying emerging portfolio risks, and working with Legal, Treasury, branch teams, and other stakeholders to ensure credit facilities are properly structured and ready for disbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Review, assess, approve, or decline credit applications within delegated lending authority.

  • Critically evaluate credit proposals prepared by Credit Analysts.

  • Verify the accuracy, completeness, and quality of financial analysis and risk assessments.

  • Exercise independent judgment when making credit decisions.

  • Identify key credit risks, mitigating factors, and conditions required before approval.

  • Ensure credit decisions comply with Retail Credit Policy, approved risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.

  • Escalate applications exceeding delegated authority to the appropriate approval level.

  • Return or decline incomplete or deficient applications with clear reasons and actionable feedback.

  • Monitor portfolio concentration risks, industry exposures, and emerging credit trends.

  • Maintain controls against fraud, misrepresentation, and policy violations.

  • Verify customer and employer information and ensure required checks have been completed.

  • Ensure restricted customers and suspended branches are not processed.

  • Participate in Credit Committees and other credit approval forums when required.

  • Coach and guide Credit Analysts handling complex or high-risk applications.

  • Promote consistency and quality in credit underwriting.

  • Support improvements to credit assessment methodologies, tools, and processes.

  • Review structured lending and secured credit proposals.

  • Determine appropriate facility structures, repayment terms, pricing recommendations, and risk-mitigation requirements.

  • Assess whether collateral and security arrangements are adequate and enforceable.

  • Approve conditions relating to collateral perfection, legal documentation, insurance, and other security requirements.

  • Ensure all conditions precedent are fulfilled before loan disbursement.

  • Work with Legal, Treasury, Security Management, Branch Network, and Business Units on credit matters.

  • Ensure facility structure, collateral, documentation, and disbursement requirements are properly aligned.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on credit decisions.

  • Monitor approved credit facilities and identify emerging portfolio risks.

  • Support portfolio reviews, risk-remediation initiatives, and early-warning strategies.

  • Contribute to credit-policy development and periodic policy reviews.

  • Support risk-appetite assessments and improvements to credit-governance frameworks.

  • Recommend measures to improve portfolio quality and manage credit exposure.

  • Remain updated on regulatory developments, credit policies, and credit-risk management practices.

  • Support internal and external audits and assist with closing audit findings.

  • Maintain complete and accurate credit approval records for transparency and audit purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in Credit Risk, Credit Underwriting, Lending Operations, Banking, or related financial services.

  • Knowledge of credit risk assessment and underwriting.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.

  • Good credit-risk knowledge.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-management abilities.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and relevant credit systems.

  • Digital familiarity.

  • Experience working in a similar banking or financial-services environment.

  • Strong reasoning and judgment skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and policies.

  • Strong attention to credit quality, compliance, and risk controls.
