Job Description

NBC Tanzania is looking for an experienced Reconciliation Manager to lead and manage the bank’s reconciliation function in Dar es Salaam. The role is responsible for ensuring that bank, general ledger, suspense, clearing, digital, card, mobile money, and Nostro accounts are reconciled accurately and within agreed timelines.

The position is suited to an experienced banking, finance, accounting, or financial-controls professional with strong reconciliation knowledge and proven management experience. The successful candidate will oversee reconciliation teams, investigate and resolve exceptions, strengthen internal controls, support audits and regulatory compliance, and provide management with reliable information on financial and operational risks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation activities across bank, general ledger, suspense, clearing, digital, card, mobile money, and Nostro accounts.

  • Ensure reconciliations are completed, reviewed, properly evidenced, and attested within agreed service-level timelines.

  • Oversee the investigation, ageing, escalation, and clearance of reconciling items and long-outstanding balances.

  • Conduct quality assurance checks to confirm accuracy, completeness, segregation of duties, and compliance with reconciliation standards.

  • Maintain proper documentation, supporting evidence, and audit trails for reconciliations and exception resolutions.

  • Ensure reconciliation activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, reconciliation procedures, and the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework.

  • Prepare reconciliation dashboards and exception reports for management.

  • Highlight aged, high-risk, unusual, and material reconciling items.

  • Identify root causes of recurring reconciliation issues and recommend corrective actions.

  • Identify process gaps and control weaknesses and recommend sustainable improvements.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing reconciliation schedules, explanations, supporting documents, and action-plan updates.

  • Ensure compliance with AML, sanctions, KYC, information security, and operational risk requirements.

  • Work with branches, Head Office units, Treasury, Finance, Operations, Technology, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies.

  • Escalate high-value, unusual, aged, or high-risk reconciling items through appropriate governance channels.

  • Ensure reconciliation queries are addressed promptly and stakeholders understand required actions and deadlines.

  • Lead, coach, and develop reconciliation staff.

  • Set clear team objectives and monitor staff performance.

  • Identify training and development needs within the reconciliation team.

  • Allocate workloads effectively and manage leave plans to maintain uninterrupted reconciliation activities.

  • Promote automation, standardization, and simplification of reconciliation processes.

  • Improve reconciliation accuracy, efficiency, and control effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or an equivalent qualification.

  • At least 5 years of experience in banking operations, finance operations, reconciliations, or financial controls.

  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or management position.

  • Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations, suspense accounts, clearing accounts, Nostro accounts, general ledger controls, and settlement processes.

  • Sound understanding of operational risk and internal controls.

  • Knowledge of AML, sanctions, KYC, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Advanced analytical, investigation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to interpret reconciliation trends, ageing reports, exception reports, and root-cause analysis.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Knowledge of core banking and reconciliation systems.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proven leadership, coaching, and performance-management skills.

  • Change-management capability and openness to change.

  • Strong business-improvement orientation.
