NBC Tanzania is inviting applications for the position of Credit Sanctioning Analyst in Dar es Salaam. The role is ideal for experienced banking and credit professionals with strong analytical, risk assessment, and decision-making skills who can independently review and sanction credit applications within an approved lending mandate.
The Credit Sanctioning Analyst will play an important role in maintaining high-quality credit standards while supporting responsible business growth. The successful candidate will review credit proposals, assess risks and mitigants, ensure compliance with credit policies and regulatory requirements, and provide guidance to Credit Analysts on complex lending cases.
Responsibilities

Review and approve or decline credit applications within delegated lending authority.

Critically assess credit proposals submitted by Credit Analysts for accuracy, completeness, financial soundness, risk assessment, and policy compliance.

Exercise independent judgment when making credit sanctioning decisions.

Identify key credit risks, appropriate mitigants, and conditions precedent to approval.

Ensure all credit approvals comply with the Retail Credit Policy, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.

Escalate applications that exceed delegated authority to the appropriate higher approval levels.

Reject or return incomplete or deficient applications with clear justification and guidance.

Monitor concentration risks, portfolio trends, and sector exposures.

Maintain strict controls against fraud, misrepresentation, and breaches of credit policies.

Verify that suspended branches or customers are not processed for lending.

Ensure employer confirmations and required due diligence have been completed.

Participate in credit committees where required.

Provide guidance and constructive challenge to Credit Analysts on complex credit cases.

Promote consistency and quality in credit underwriting standards.

Support continuous improvement of credit assessment methodologies and processes.

Review structured deals and secured lending proposals to ensure they are properly structured.

Recommend appropriate facility structures, pricing, and risk mitigation measures where applicable.

Ensure collateral and security requirements are adequate and enforceable.

Approve conditions relating to collateralization, legal documentation, insurance, and valuations.

Liaise with Legal, Treasury, Security Management Unit, and Branch Network teams on loan structuring and collateral requirements.

Ensure approved facilities are ready for disbursement and all required conditions have been met.

Provide timely feedback on credit decisions to business units.

Monitor approved facilities to identify emerging credit risks.

Support portfolio reviews and remediation strategies.

Contribute to credit policy reviews, risk appetite calibration, and credit governance frameworks.

Ensure credit approvals comply with internal policies and applicable regulatory standards.

Keep up to date with changes in regulatory requirements and credit policies.

Support internal and external audits and ensure identified audit findings are addressed.

Maintain complete documentation of credit decisions and approval rationales for audit trails.
Qualifications and Requirements

A Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.

At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in credit, banking, or a related field.

Strong credit risk assessment skills.

Good analytical and reasoning abilities.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Good Microsoft Office and computer skills.

Digital familiarity and ability to work with banking systems and technology.

Experience working in a similar credit or banking environment.
