NBC Tanzania is seeking a Branch Credit Sanctioning Analyst to join its team in Dar es Salaam. The position is responsible for independently reviewing, challenging, and approving or declining credit applications within the employee’s delegated lending authority. The role serves as an important credit-risk control point, ensuring that lending decisions support business growth while remaining within the bank’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will review credit proposals prepared by Credit Analysts, assess financial and credit risks, verify compliance with policies, evaluate collateral and security arrangements, and provide clear decisions or recommendations. The role also involves monitoring portfolio risks, supporting credit governance, participating in audits, and providing technical guidance to Credit Analysts on complex lending cases.
Responsibilities

Review, approve, or decline credit applications within the delegated lending authority.

Critically assess credit proposals prepared by Credit Analysts.

Verify the accuracy and completeness of credit analysis.

Assess the financial strength and risk profile of applicants.

Ensure credit proposals comply with applicable policies and procedures.

Exercise independent judgment when making credit sanctioning decisions.

Identify key risks, appropriate mitigants, and conditions required before approval.

Ensure approvals comply with the Retail Credit Policy, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.

Escalate applications that exceed delegated authority to the appropriate approval level.

Reject or return incomplete or deficient applications with clear explanations and guidance.

Monitor concentration risks, portfolio trends, and sector exposures.

Maintain strict controls against fraud, misrepresentation, and policy breaches.

Verify that suspended branches or customers are not processed for lending.

Confirm that employer verification and required due diligence have been completed.

Participate in credit committees where required.

Provide guidance and constructive challenge to Credit Analysts handling complex applications.

Promote consistency and high-quality credit underwriting standards.

Support continuous improvement of credit assessment methodologies.

Review structured transactions and secured lending proposals for strength and viability.

Recommend appropriate facility structures, pricing where applicable, and risk mitigants.

Ensure collateral and security requirements are adequate and enforceable.

Approve conditions relating to collateralization, legal documentation, insurance, and valuations.

Liaise with Legal, Treasury, Security Management Unit, and branch teams.

Ensure loan structures, collateral, and disbursement requirements are properly aligned.

Provide timely feedback on credit decisions to business units.

Monitor approved facilities for emerging credit risks.

Support portfolio reviews and remediation strategies.

Contribute to credit policy reviews and risk appetite calibration.

Support the development and improvement of credit governance frameworks.

Ensure all credit approvals comply with internal policies and regulatory standards.

Keep up to date with regulatory and policy changes.

Support internal and external audits and ensure audit findings are addressed.

Maintain complete documentation of credit decisions and approval rationale for audit purposes.
Requirements

Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.

At least 3 years of relevant experience.

Experience in a similar credit or banking environment.

Strong credit risk knowledge and credit assessment skills.

Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Good Microsoft Office and computer skills.

Strong understanding of lending, credit underwriting, and risk management.
