NBC Tanzania is seeking a Credit Analyst to join its team in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on evaluating credit applications from individual and business customers, analyzing financial information, assessing creditworthiness, and identifying potential risks before loan facilities are approved. The successful candidate will ensure that credit assessments comply with NBC’s policies, regulatory requirements, and agreed service-level timelines.
The position also involves reviewing secured lending documentation, supporting loan restructuring, conducting due diligence, communicating with branches and other stakeholders, and contributing to effective credit risk management. The role is well suited to professionals with experience in banking, finance, credit analysis, or credit risk who can make sound decisions while working accurately under pressure.
Responsibilities

Assess credit applications from individual and business clients.

Analyze financial statements, credit histories, and supporting documents to determine creditworthiness.

Identify potential credit risks and recommend appropriate actions.

Review loan applications for possible fraud by verifying customer identification, signatures, and supporting documentation.

Complete credit assessments within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
-
Ensure credit recommendations comply with the approved Retail Credit Policy and product procedures.

Make credit decisions on loan applications under special schemes and assignments from the Head of Retail Credit.

Conduct credit reference checks and due diligence before processing applications.

Confirm applicants’ employment information before making credit recommendations.

Monitor emerging credit trends and improve credit assessment methodologies.

Ensure applications are not processed for branches or customers suspended from lending.

Coordinate with Legal, Treasury, Security Management Unit (SMU), branches, and other stakeholders on secured lending applications.

Prepare and issue offer letters and communicate approved facilities through branch networks.

Ensure secured loans complete all required collateralization procedures before recommendation for approval.

Support smooth client onboarding after loan approval.

Review loan documentation including land rent, valuation reports, insurance, title deeds, and mortgages.

Verify that loan securities are complete, valid, and up to date.

Review loan restructuring requests and other financial products against the bank’s risk appetite.

Conduct risk assessments for restructured loans and evaluate their potential impact on portfolio performance.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal credit policies.

Work collaboratively with credit teams and branch staff.

Support succession planning and professional development within the team.

Participate in job rotations and support other Retail Credit units when required.

Conduct training sessions and facilitate knowledge sharing among colleagues.

Ensure all credit evaluations and approvals comply with NBC policies and applicable regulations.

Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary process adjustments.

Participate in internal audits and support corrective action plans for identified compliance gaps.

Undertake additional duties assigned by management within the required timelines.
Requirements

Degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.

At least 2 years of relevant experience.

Experience in a similar banking or credit environment.

Knowledge of credit risk management.

Strong analytical and reasoning skills.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively under pressure.

Good Microsoft Office and computer skills.

Strong understanding of credit assessment and risk analysis.

Good attention to detail when reviewing financial and loan documentation.

Ability to adapt to changes in policies, processes, and regulatory requirements.
