Job Description

Hebet Technologies Limited is seeking a Field Loan Officer (FLO) – Merchants & SMEs to manage merchant and SME lending activities within an assigned territory in Tanzania. This is a field-based and target-driven position where the officer will identify and engage prospective borrowers, verify businesses, collect KYC and business information, submit loan applications, and support customers throughout the lending process.

The role also involves monitoring the health of an assigned loan portfolio and taking action when repayment problems arise. In addition, the officer will conduct field collections, negotiate repayment commitments, maintain customer relationships, and identify opportunities to cross-sell or upsell financial products. Performance-based incentives are tied to portfolio acquisition, portfolio quality, and collections performance.

Responsibilities

  • Receive assigned merchant and SME leads.

  • Contact prospective customers, introduce lending products, assess their initial interest, and schedule verification visits.

  • Visit business premises to physically verify businesses and collect required KYC and KYB documentation.

  • Collect identification, business registration documents, financial information, and premises photographs.

  • For SME customers, collect additional financial information such as:

    • Management accounts

    • Trade references

    • Supplier information

    • Collateral details

  • Submit completed loan applications to the Centralised Credit Administration Unit (CAU) through the assigned platform.

  • Respond to CAU queries within the required Service Level Agreement (SLA) timelines.

  • Communicate loan decisions to customers.

  • Explain loan terms and repayment schedules clearly.

  • Support loan activation and disbursement.

  • Monitor early warning alerts and respond within 48 hours.

  • Engage customers experiencing repayment challenges and identify appropriate solutions.

  • Escalate high-risk accounts where necessary.

  • Conduct field collections for overdue loans.

  • Negotiate repayment commitments within approved company policies.

  • Escalate unresolved collection cases.

  • Maintain professional relationships with assigned merchants and SMEs.

  • Conduct periodic customer visits.

  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities.

  • Record daily field activities using the company's mobile application.

  • Prepare performance reports.

  • Follow company policies, ethical standards, and data-protection requirements.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field.

  • 1–2 years of experience in one or more of the following:

    • Field sales

    • Agent banking

    • Microfinance

    • Merchant services

    • Loan collections

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Good negotiation skills.

  • Basic understanding of credit, lending, and collections processes.

  • Comfortable using smartphones and mobile applications for:

    • Data capture

    • GPS verification

    • Biometric confirmation

  • High level of integrity and professionalism.

  • Strong ethical conduct.

  • Fluency in Swahili.

  • English proficiency is preferred.

  • Experience with mobile money platforms, merchant acquiring, or digital financial services is an added advantage.

  • Ability to work independently in the field and meet performance targets.
