Knauf Tanzania is seeking a qualified and experienced Maintenance Manager to join its Mkuranga Plant in Pwani. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that production equipment, machinery, utilities, and plant facilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
This is a senior maintenance leadership position focused on preventing equipment breakdowns, reducing production downtime, improving asset performance, and controlling maintenance costs. The role also involves leading maintenance personnel, managing preventive and corrective maintenance programmes, overseeing spare parts, and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programmes for plant machinery, production lines, utilities, and infrastructure.

Establish maintenance schedules that minimize production interruptions and maximize equipment efficiency.

Lead, supervise, coach, and develop maintenance technicians, engineers, and support staff.

Oversee maintenance and repair activities for crushers, mills, kilns, conveyors, mixers, packaging equipment, and other critical production machinery.

Ensure reliable operation of electrical systems, compressed-air systems, and hydraulic equipment.

Investigate equipment breakdowns and determine root causes.

Implement corrective actions to prevent recurring equipment failures and unplanned downtime.

Monitor equipment performance, efficiency, and energy consumption.

Identify opportunities to improve operational reliability and maintenance efficiency.

Manage inventories of spare parts, tools, and maintenance materials.

Conduct regular plant inspections and ensure compliance with company safety requirements.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical documentation, and maintenance reports.

Coordinate maintenance activities with other plant functions and contractors.

Support reliable and cost-effective plant operations through effective maintenance planning and execution.
Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related discipline.

At least 5 years of maintenance experience.

Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory maintenance role.

Strong understanding of mechanical and electromechanical systems.

Good knowledge of physics and engineering principles.

Strong understanding of preventive maintenance systems and asset management.

Experience maintaining industrial plant equipment and facility systems.

Experience managing maintenance contractors.

Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Experience using maintenance management software or systems.

Good understanding of occupational health and safety regulations.

Strong people-management and leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and manage maintenance teams.

Ability to work effectively in a production and industrial environment.
