Job Description

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is inviting applications for the position of Tutorial Assistant in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The role is designed for a recent graduate who wants to begin an academic career while developing teaching, research, and professional skills within the university environment.

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior academic staff and participate in lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions, research, consultancy, and public-service activities. The position also provides an opportunity to pursue postgraduate training leading to a Master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Under-study senior academic staff by attending lectures, seminars, tutorials, and practical sessions.

  • Conduct seminars, tutorials, and practical classes.

  • Assist academic staff in research activities.

  • Participate in consultancy assignments and public-service activities.

  • Undertake postgraduate training for a Master’s degree.

  • Support academic and departmental activities as assigned by senior staff.

  • Perform other relevant duties assigned by superiors.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.8 from a university recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU).

  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen.

  • Must be aged 45 years or below.

  • Must have a National Identification Number (NIN) issued by NIDA.

  • Applicants should meet the academic and documentation requirements specified by UDSM and PSRS.

  • Existing public servants are not eligible to apply for this position.

  • Degrees obtained from foreign universities must be verified by TCU, with the GPA recalculated on a 5.0 scale.

  • O-Level and A-Level certificates obtained from foreign examination bodies must be verified by NECTA.
