Helper Mechanic Job at TPC Ltd

TPC Ltd is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Helper Mechanic in Kilimanjaro. The role involves supporting mechanics with the maintenance and repair of pumps and other mechanical equipment at the company’s sugar production site. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of experienced mechanics while assisting with routine maintenance activities and basic mechanical tasks.

This opportunity is suitable for candidates with practical mechanical training, particularly those who have completed VETA Level I in Fitter Mechanic, Fitting & Turning, or an equivalent qualification recognized by NACTVET. Previous experience in pump maintenance is an added advantage, although the position is primarily focused on providing mechanical support as part of a maintenance team.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics with the maintenance and repair of pumps and mechanical equipment.

• Prepare tools and required spare parts before maintenance work begins.

  

• Prepare and organize the work area for maintenance activities.

• Assist with basic fitting and turning tasks under supervision.

• Clean mechanical equipment after maintenance activities.

• Inspect equipment for visible defects or abnormalities.

• Report identified equipment defects to the supervisor.

• Support mechanics during routine and corrective maintenance activities.

• Follow workshop procedures and instructions from senior mechanics.

• Observe all workplace health and safety requirements.

• Use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during maintenance activities.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

• Work effectively as part of the mechanical maintenance team.

Qualifications and Requirements

• VETA Level I qualification in Fitter Mechanic, Fitting & Turning, or an equivalent qualification recognized by NACTVET.

• 1–2 years of experience in pump maintenance is an added advantage.

• Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair.

• Basic understanding of fitting and turning activities.

• Ability to use and handle workshop tools appropriately.

• Ability to identify and report equipment defects.

• Willingness to work under the supervision of experienced mechanics.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.

• Commitment to workplace safety procedures.

• Ability to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
