Senior Credit Operations Officer – Wholesale, Syndication and SMEs Job at NMB Bank

NMB Bank Plc is inviting applications from qualified and experienced banking professionals for the position of Senior Credit Operations Officer – Wholesale, Syndication and SMEs. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing and disbursement of secured retail and wholesale loans while maintaining compliance with the bank’s credit policies, operational procedures, and agreed service standards.

The position will also support the Credit Operations Manager in managing daily credit operations, reviewing loan drawdowns, validating customer and credit information, maintaining authorization controls, and improving operational efficiency. In addition, the officer will contribute to loan portfolio quality, risk management, NPL management, and the development of junior credit operations staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Credit Operations Manager in ensuring daily loan disbursement activities are completed within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Review and process loan drawdowns before disbursement.

  • Ensure submitted loan applications comply with applicable credit policies and requirements.

  • Distribute pending loan processing tasks to officers when the Manager is unavailable.

  • Monitor the accuracy and timely completion of loan disbursements.

  • Create, extend, and amend Overdraft (OD) limits based on approved credit decisions and customer requests.

  • Perform first-level authorization of transactions requiring dual approval in the core banking system.

  • Verify customer information captured in the Core Banking System and Loan Management System.

  • Review credit application checklists and recommend improvements where necessary.

  • Ensure accurate posting of loan transactions and approved account amendments.

  • Monitor credit operations controls to minimize operational risks.

  • Report suspicious transactions, risk events, and incidents in accordance with bank procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with credit policies, operational guidelines, and established controls.

  • Support management in identifying process gaps and implementing improvements.

  • Ensure timely posting of liquidation amounts received from the Collections and Special Asset Management (SAM) teams.

  • Support Non-Performing Loan (NPL) management through accurate and timely transaction processing.

  • Process approved amendments for incorrectly booked accounts.

  • Coach junior Credit Operations Officers.

  • Train newly recruited branch officers on credit application validation, documentation requirements, and disbursement controls.

  • Support effective day-to-day operations within the Credit Operations unit.

  • Review and capture credit card limit creation requests after approval from the Credit Department.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

  • More than 3 years of banking experience in Wholesale Credit Operations, SME Credit Operations, Syndication Loans, or Retail Credit Operations.

  • Understanding of loan processing procedures and credit administration.

  • Understanding of NMB lending policies and credit products.

  • Practical knowledge of wholesale, SME, and retail lending operations.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Proficiency in Core Banking Systems.

  • Ability to analyze credit and operational data.

  • Ability to prepare accurate reports.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

  • Result-oriented approach.

  • Ability to adapt to changing business environments.

  • Experience in loan processing and administration is an added advantage.

  • A Master’s Degree in Business Studies is an added advantage.

  • Professional banking certification(s) are an added advantage.
