What This Job Really Involves

This is essentially a digital credit-risk specialist role.

Instead of manually processing every loan application, modern digital lending platforms use credit scorecards, automated rules, decision engines, customer data, and eligibility criteria to make lending decisions. Your job would be to make sure those automated systems are producing appropriate decisions and that the resulting loan portfolio remains healthy.

For example, if a digital loan application is automatically approved, the specialist monitors whether customers are actually repaying those loans. If arrears start increasing within a particular customer segment, the specialist investigates the underlying cause and may recommend changes to the scorecard, eligibility criteria, lending limits, or credit rules.

The role therefore sits between Credit, Digital Banking, Data Analytics, Product Management, and Technology.

Main Areas You Would Work On

1. Digital underwriting

You would help govern how automated systems determine whether customers qualify for loans. This includes reviewing scorecards, eligibility rules, credit calculators, and decision engines.

2. Credit-risk monitoring

You would continuously monitor approval rates, declines, arrears, repayment behaviour, exceptions, overrides, and early-warning indicators.

3. Portfolio analysis

The job is not finished when a loan is approved. You would analyse the performance of the entire digital loan portfolio and identify emerging risks.

4. Fraud and unusual behaviour

You would look for suspicious application patterns, unusual customer behaviour, and other indicators that could signal fraud or weaknesses in the lending process.

5. Product improvement

You would work with IT, Analytics, Operations, and Business teams to improve the digital lending journey and make lending products more effective while maintaining appropriate risk controls.

6. Credit policy

You would help ensure that automated lending platforms correctly apply the Bank's credit policies and contribute to updates of credit policies and operating procedures.

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate would typically have:

  • At least 3 years of digital lending or credit-risk experience.

  • Direct experience with digital loan products.

  • Knowledge of automated credit decisioning.

  • Experience with credit scorecards and underwriting models.

  • Understanding of loan origination systems.

  • Strong portfolio-monitoring and credit-analysis skills.

  • Experience working with digital financial products.

  • Good understanding of consumer lending.

  • Strong data-analysis capabilities.

  • Experience collaborating with IT and analytics teams.

  • Strong understanding of credit policy and lending controls.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

Final Thought
