Quality Control Operator Job at JTI Tanzania

Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is seeking a Quality Control Operator to join its Quality team in Dar es Salaam. This is a permanent position focused on monitoring production processes, inspecting materials and products, conducting quality tests, and ensuring that production activities meet JTI quality standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Quality Control and Improvement Supervisor, production teams, machine operators, and technical teams. The role requires strong attention to detail, analytical ability, basic computer skills, and the ability to work effectively in both English and Kiswahili.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and record samples for process confirmation and quality assurance analysis.

  • Perform physical measurements and visual quality inspections according to JTI quality procedures and plans.

  • Provide timely product quality feedback reports at the end of each shift.

  • Investigate sources of non-conformities and conduct Initial Problem Solving (IPS).

  • Comply with JTI Quality Management System (QMS) and Local Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements.

  • Follow changeover procedures during pre-production, start-up, material testing, and prototype activities.

  • Work with shift supervisors, machine operators, and technicians to prevent product and material mix-ups.

  • Conduct quality trigger risk assessments and follow up on required action plans.

  • Ensure QC instruments are operational and perform calibration checks according to relevant procedures.

  • Report non-conforming equipment to QC Technical Support.

  • Confirm product quality following machine maintenance activities.

  • Inspect incoming materials from the receiving warehouse before they are used in production.

  • Conduct Quality Behaviour Observations (QBOS) and engage employees regarding unfavourable behaviours.

  • Collect, record, analyse, and report data for assigned projects.

  • Support projects involving new product development, process control, machine qualification, and equipment calibration.

  • Use the designated QC database for quality-related data management.

  • Maintain responsibility for personal health and safety as well as the safety of others.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • A BSc in Engineering, Food Technology, Chemistry and Biology, Laboratory Technology, or an equivalent qualification.

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.

  • Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.

  • Good understanding of quality control and production processes.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality deviations.

  • Ability to analyse information and communicate quality findings effectively.

  • Commitment to workplace health and safety.
