RMS Performance and Assurance Engineer

Responsibilities

The RMS Performance and Assurance Engineer will be responsible for:

• Monitoring portfolio-wide energy performance using analytics tools and remote monitoring platforms.

• Identifying sites operating outside approved performance parameters, including excessive generator runtime, abnormal fuel consumption, and poor renewable energy performance.

• Prioritizing technical issues based on operational and financial impact.

• Developing corrective action plans and ensuring issues are resolved effectively.

• Conducting structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring operational problems and performance deviations.

• Identifying whether issues are caused by equipment failures, process failures, configuration errors, fuel losses, or infrastructure limitations.

• Recommending permanent corrective actions for recurring and systemic issues.

• Maintaining Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) trends and monitoring reliability improvements.

• Managing fuel sensor validation and ensuring data accuracy across monitored sites.

• Investigating inaccurate or inconsistent fuel measurements.

• Reconciling fuel deliveries, consumption data, and billing information to identify discrepancies.

• Supporting fuel cost control through accurate telemetry validation and reporting.

• Preparing weekly reports on fuel sensor performance, fuel events, and data exceptions.

• Conducting portfolio health assessments to identify communication failures, missing telemetry, and system inconsistencies.

• Ensuring remote monitoring systems provide reliable operational information.

• Validating telemetry data before analysis and reporting.

• Analyzing hardware reliability trends based on device type, age, and operating conditions.

• Monitoring performance of remote monitoring equipment and infrastructure.

• Recommending reliability improvements based on operational findings.

• Developing and maintaining quality assurance standards for RMS installations and maintenance activities.

• Auditing field activities against established quality requirements.

• Verifying corrective actions before approving completed work.

• Documenting non-conformities and recommending improvements.

• Preparing operational and executive reports highlighting performance, risks, and savings achieved.

• Measuring improvements related to fuel savings, reduced downtime, improved reliability, and operational efficiency.

• Presenting technical findings and recommendations to customers and management teams.

• Preparing daily system availability reports showing platform uptime, communication issues, and required actions.

• Managing the Return Material Authorization (RMA) process for faulty RMS equipment.

• Tracking failed devices, validating failure reports, coordinating returns, and preparing RMA reports.

• Training customers and field teams on remote monitoring best practices.

• Supporting data-driven decision-making across customer operations.

• Providing technical support and coordinating between field technicians, back-office teams, and site management.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in telecom infrastructure, energy systems, remote monitoring, or industrial IoT.

• At least two (2) years of experience in performance engineering, analytics, or technical assurance roles.

• Demonstrated experience conducting structured Root Cause Analysis.

• Strong analytical skills using Microsoft Excel.

• Knowledge of SQL, Python, or Power BI is an added advantage.

• Practical knowledge of diesel generator systems.

• Practical knowledge of solar and hybrid energy systems.

• Understanding of DC power systems and rectifiers.

• Knowledge of battery technologies and battery health analysis.

• Knowledge of fuel monitoring systems.

• Experience with remote telemetry platforms.

• Valid driving license.

• Willingness to travel extensively throughout Tanzania.

• Professional proficiency in English and Swahili.

• Experience supporting Tower Companies (TowerCos) or Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) is preferred.

• Knowledge of fuel reconciliation and energy billing processes is an added advantage.

• Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus and SNMP is preferred.

• Understanding of electrical protection systems, including surge protection, is an advantage.

• Exposure to industrial IoT and remote monitoring technologies is preferred.

• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.

• Ability to conduct evidence-based technical analysis.
