Role Overview
The Accounts Team Leader supports the Finance Manager in overseeing the Finance and Accounts functions, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, statutory compliance, and strong internal controls.
The role provides operational leadership to the Accounts team and delivers reliable financial information to support management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Management
- Prepare monthly management accounts (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow) for Finance Manager review.
- Ensure accounts are accurate, timely, and all anomalies investigated.
- Maintain the General Ledger and oversee daily QuickBooks transactions for accuracy and completeness.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow monitoring, providing variance analysis.
- Assist in quarterly and annual financial reporting.
Team Leadership
- Lead, plan, and coordinate Accounts team activities efficiently.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and performance monitoring for team members.
- Allocate tasks, enforce deadlines, and maintain professional standards.
Accounts Management
- Oversee debtors and creditors accounts; ensure reconciliations are timely and accurate.
- Monitor bank and cash reconciliations to maintain daily operational funds.
- Review trip cost variances with responsible accountants and resolve issues promptly.
- Review supplier invoices and LPOs in line with delegated authority.
- Monitor accounts payable aging and ensure timely settlement of supplier obligations.
- Ensure correct payroll postings in QuickBooks.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure timely payment of statutory obligations (PAYE, SDL, NSSF, VAT, provisional tax, etc.).
- Maintain proper documentation for statutory filings and inspections.
- Assist in internal, external, and tax audits with schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents.
- Support implementation and follow-up of audit recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, Tanzanian tax laws, and internal policies.
Other Duties
- Maintain accurate fixed asset records and support verification exercises.
- Support monthly stock reconciliations and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Liaise with internal departments, banks, suppliers, and service providers on operational and financial matters.
- Perform other accounting or finance-related duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA(T) professional certification.
- Minimum 5+ years progressive accounting experience, including team supervision.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting practices.
- Knowledge of tax compliance and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting system.
- Experience in month-end/year-end closing, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
