Dangote Industries Limited is seeking an experienced Head of Mines to oversee all quarry and mining operations at Dangote Cement Limited Tanzania Limestone Mines in Mtwara. The role is responsible for safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of limestone and raw materials to support uninterrupted cement production while ensuring full compliance with mining, environmental, and explosives regulations in Tanzania.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement short-term, annual, and life-of-mine plans
- Manage limestone extraction, overburden removal, and stockpile operations
- Supervise drilling and blasting activities using Flexiroc D60 drill rigs
- Ensure proper explosive storage, handling, and regulatory compliance
- Manage HEMM fleet availability, maintenance, and utilisation
- Monitor crusher feed quality and maintain production targets
- Lead HSE compliance, risk assessments, and environmental management
- Coordinate reserve estimation, geological analysis, and mine development
- Prepare operational budgets, cost reports, and CAPEX proposals
- Maintain statutory reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Lead and develop quarry, drilling, blasting, geology, and maintenance teams
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
- Master’s degree, MBA, or Mine Management qualification is an added advantage
- Valid blasting competency certification required
- Tanzanian Mine Manager Certificate of Competency is highly desirable
- NEBOSH or IOSH certification is an added advantage
Experience Required:
- Minimum 12–15 years of experience in open cast or open pit mining
- At least 5 years in a senior mining leadership role
- Strong experience in limestone quarry operations for cement plants
- Proven expertise in drilling, blasting, and HEMM fleet management
- Experience with TMAA, MEM, NEMC, and Tanzania mining regulations
- Experience managing explosive magazines and compliance procedures
- East Africa mining experience is an added advantage
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong mine planning and reserve management skills
- Expertise in drilling, blasting, and fragmentation optimisation
- Knowledge of limestone chemistry and cement raw material requirements
- Strong budgeting, cost control, and reporting skills
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
