Hesu Investment Limited is seeking a qualified and dedicated Heavy Duty Mechanic to join its Machinery Department at HESU HQ.
Hesu Investment Ltd is licensed by the Tanzania Revenue Authority to operate an Inland Container Depot (ICD) facility. The company operates a well-located 9-acre paved yard with a storage capacity of 3,800 Twenty Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) stacked five high. Its vision is to become a leading container and transport logistics provider by delivering consistently high-quality ICD and CFS services.

Job Purpose
The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and industrial equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
The role is critical in minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring all machinery complies with safety and performance standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Inspection and Diagnostics
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy-duty trucks, buses, trailers, and construction machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Test equipment after repairs to confirm operational safety and compliance.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and company schedules.
- Repair or replace engines, transmissions, axles, braking systems, suspension systems, steering components, and electrical parts.
- Conduct routine servicing including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and system adjustments.
Specialized Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and repair port machinery such as reach stackers, forklifts, skid steer loaders, and overhead cranes.
- Service construction machinery including excavators, motor graders, wheel loaders, and bulldozers.
Operational Support
- Respond to breakdowns and emergency repairs, including field or roadside assistance when required.
- Coordinate with supervisors to plan maintenance activities and reduce operational interruptions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and job cards.
Workplace Standards
- Ensure proper use and care of workshop tools and equipment.
- Maintain workshop cleanliness and organization.
- Provide on-the-job guidance to junior mechanics or apprentices where necessary.
- Comply with workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate or Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Heavy Equipment Mechanics.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or in a similar role.
- Proven experience working with heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, or industrial machinery.
- Valid driving license (heavy vehicle license is an added advantage).
- Experience with port machinery and terminal handling equipment is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Solid knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- High attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Physical stamina and ability to work in demanding environments.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Strict adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
- Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Immediate reporting of hazards, incidents, or near misses.
