Role Purpose
The British Council offers highly motivated individuals an experiential learning opportunity to support their transition into the workforce through its inclusive internship programme.

Role Context
This internship is designed to support individuals from marginalised backgrounds to gain essential skills and practical experience that enhance employability and promote upward social mobility. The programme contributes to the British Council’s wider commitment to social value.
Main Accountabilities
Asset Development and Planning
- Participate in programme team meetings in Tanzania to understand priorities and identify upcoming events and promotional opportunities
- Audit existing marketing assets and develop an events and activities calendar
- Create engaging copy and visual assets, including social media posts, impact stories, and stakeholder engagement materials
Social Media and Website Support
- Maintain social media activity by creating, uploading, and sharing content with designated Marketing Managers
- Liaise with the hub team for content posting via Airtable
- Track campaign performance and compile engagement analytics
- Support digital campaigns by identifying opportunities to showcase impact stories, case studies, and promotional materials
Event Support
- Assist in planning and promoting online and in-person events such as webinars and stakeholder engagements across Arts, Education, and Exams
- Prepare event materials, including flyers and name badges
- Support logistics and event delivery as required
Market Research
- Conduct basic competitor research
- Compile and categorise stakeholder lists, including VIP and sector contacts
Administrative and Coordination Tasks
- Maintain marketing databases such as mailing lists and media contacts
- Update reports, calendars, and content publication schedules
- Support coordination of internal communications
- Liaise between the British Council Tanzania team, regional marketing and communications teams, and external partners
Brand and Reputation Monitoring
- Monitor media mentions, press coverage, and online sentiment related to the organisation
Collaboration and Learning
- Work with other departments to gather campaign information and identify internal promotion opportunities
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute ideas for campaigns
- Stay informed on best practices in digital marketing and communications
Learning and Development Opportunities
Through this role, the intern is expected to develop skills in:
- Copywriting, content creation, digital campaigns, brand management, and marketing strategy support at local, national, and international levels
- Prioritisation and time management
- Intercultural communication and working with diverse audiences
- Understanding global organisational frameworks, policies, and best practices
- Networking and stakeholder engagement across programme and country leadership teams
Conditions of Employment
