Electrical Technician
Job Description
This role is a technical maintenance position within a brewery environment, focused on ensuring continuous and safe operation of electrical systems at a Diageo production facility in Mwanza. The Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting smooth production processes.
It is a hands-on industrial role that combines electrical engineering expertise with preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement practices. The technician plays a critical part in ensuring production efficiency, safety compliance, and overall plant performance.
Responsibilities
- Ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety standards and actively promote safe working practices
- Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs of electrical systems and production equipment
- Execute planned preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment availability and efficiency
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and perform troubleshooting and fault diagnosis
- Install, assemble, test, and maintain electrical and electronic wiring, machinery, and appliances
- Monitor and record equipment performance parameters such as voltage, current, temperature, and pressure
- Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams for maintenance and repair work
- Support production operations by ensuring reliable functioning of plant utilities and systems
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives and application of maintenance management systems (MMS)
- Maintain proper usage and tracking of spare parts and maintenance materials
- Support utilities engineers in achieving production targets and performance KPIs
- Participate in training programs and skill development activities
- Prepare and submit maintenance reports, condition monitoring sheets, and status updates
- Collaborate with colleagues and contractors during maintenance and breakdown response activities
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- At least 3 years of experience in electrical maintenance within brewery, food, beverage, or manufacturing environments
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems and equipment maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic systems
- Understanding of preventive maintenance systems and process optimization techniques
- Familiarity with maintenance management systems (MMS) principles and tools
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in industrial environments
- Ability to work under pressure in a production-driven setting
- Strong commitment to safety and operational discipline
