Job Description

The Managing Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, providing strategic leadership and executive oversight of all organizational operations. The role is responsible for driving business growth, strengthening governance and risk management, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a high-performance culture that supports the Bank’s long-term strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Chief Executive Officer and principal spokesperson of the Bank
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversee the implementation of the Bank’s vision, mission, business strategy, and Board directives
  • Develop and maintain organizational policies, systems, and a corporate culture that promotes employee engagement, customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and stakeholder confidence
  • Review organizational policies, procedures, operational standards, and recommend improvements to the Board of Directors
  • Oversee recruitment, appointments, transfers, disciplinary actions, and staff separation in compliance with labour laws and organizational policies
  • Monitor employee performance and implement staff development, succession planning, and capacity-building initiatives
  • Approve training and professional development programmes to strengthen institutional performance
  • Ensure efficient utilization of financial, human, and operational resources to achieve strategic objectives
  • Oversee daily banking operations and ensure compliance with banking laws, financial regulations, and prudential requirements
  • Provide executive oversight of credit management activities in accordance with approved policies and risk frameworks
  • Chair Management Committee meetings and ensure effective implementation of management decisions
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, excellence, and customer-centric service delivery
  • Lead business development initiatives to strengthen customer relationships and expand the Bank’s market presence
  • Ensure effective business continuity, security, and enterprise risk management systems are maintained
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with regulators, government institutions, financial sector stakeholders, and development partners
  • Represent the Bank at official meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements
  • Advise the Board on organizational performance and ensure implementation of Board resolutions and recommendations
  • Monitor implementation of recommendations arising from internal audits, external audits, regulatory examinations, and Board directives
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Board of Directors

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s Degree in Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Banking, Finance, or another related commercial discipline
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience
  • At least 5 years of experience at a senior executive or C-Suite leadership level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of banking operations and financial institution management
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance principles
  • Proven knowledge of financial management and strategic planning
  • Sound understanding of enterprise risk management practices
  • Strong organizational leadership and executive management capabilities
  • Good knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework governing financial institutions
  • Proven business development and organizational growth experience
  • Excellent strategic thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to build high-performing teams and lead organizational transformation
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and computer application skills
  • Good understanding of digital banking and modern business environments
