Job Description

To support its commitment to operational safety and continuous improvement, TotalEnergies Tanzania is seeking a Graduate Trainee – HSSE to join its team in Dar es Salaam. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious professional to gain practical experience in health, safety, security, and environmental management while contributing to the development and implementation of HSSE programs across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and follow up on local and regulatory HSSE training programs
- Conduct HSSE inspections and compliance assessments at the Head Office
- Coordinate monthly HSSE and Return Experience (REX) committee meetings and monitor implementation of action points
- Organize and conduct quarterly emergency response drills to ensure preparedness
- Monitor and update HSSE cases within the Ramses reporting system
- Deliver internal HSSE training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns
- Conduct inspections at worksites and service stations to verify compliance with HSSE requirements
- Monitor, inspect, and maintain firefighting equipment at the Head Office
- Promote near-miss reporting, Golden Rules compliance, and Stop Card utilization
- Participate in accident investigations and preparation of incident reports
- Support implementation of affiliate HSSE objectives and improvement initiatives
- Participate in HSSE evaluations of contractors and bidders involved in high-risk activities
- Ensure availability, monitoring, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Assist in developing and reviewing HSSE programs, policies, procedures, and plans
- Support employee health and welfare initiatives, including monitoring food quality, drinking water safety, and sanitation standards
- Track, review, and maintain HSSE management system documents, manuals, policies, and procedures
- Ensure HSSE documents remain updated and accessible through approved platforms
- Maintain records of critical HSSE procedures and compliance requirements
- Support waste management, recycling initiatives, and environmental sustainability programs
- Coordinate participation in the Golden Rules Challenge and related employee engagement activities
- Assist in annual risk assessment reviews, including industrial hygiene assessments, risk registers, emergency preparedness plans, and critical task assessments
- Support implementation of sustainability initiatives, SRM+, SOCRAT, and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Perform any other duties assigned by the HSSE Manager
Qualification Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized higher learning institution
- Professional qualifications or certifications in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE)
- Minimum of two years of experience in HSSE-related roles, preferably within the oil and gas, mining, manufacturing, power generation, or similar industries
- Engineering background is an added advantage
- Strong understanding of occupational health, safety, and environmental management principles
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer applications
- Ability to work independently and effectively under minimal supervision
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- High level of commitment, professionalism, and attention to detail
