Assistant Stock Accountant
Job Description

To strengthen its finance and inventory management function, TotalEnergies Tanzania is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Stock Accountant to join its team in Dar es Salaam. The successful candidate will be responsible for inventory accounting, stock reconciliations, financial reporting, product costing, and ensuring the accuracy of stock-related transactions in compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare fuel and lubricant invoices and submit them to the Shared Service Centre (SSC) for processing
- Provide support to the SSC team in completing inventory and accounting transactions
- Prepare daily Movement Average Price (MAP) calculations for petroleum products
- Reconcile vendor accounts and collect General Ledger reconciliation reports
- Participate in month-end stock counts and establish stock variances for reconciliation and SAP processing following management approval
- Process monthly postings of fixed charges, including amortization and fixed expenses
- Account for all local costs associated with imported petroleum products
- Ensure timely capture and recording of VAT paid on imported lubricants
- Reconcile product borrowing and loan arrangements with other Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs)
- Manage and review inventory transactions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance
- Perform month-end stock reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare and distribute monthly reports on product adjustments posted in the accounting system
- Conduct monthly Class 3 General Ledger analysis and reconciliations
- Prepare and monitor Priority Accounting Controls (CCP) reports and follow up on outstanding issues
- Respond to inventory-related queries raised by external auditors and Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) auditors
- Monitor fuel reception losses and measurement inventory losses (MI Losses) and facilitate SAP processing following management approval
- Support continuous improvement of inventory accounting controls and reporting processes
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting procedures, and internal control requirements
Qualification Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of two to three years of experience working within a finance or accounting department
- Knowledge of inventory accounting principles and stock management processes
- Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel
- Experience working with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning systems is an added advantage
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Good organizational and record-management abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict reporting deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
