School Bus Nanny / Bus Attendant
Job Description
Hannah Bennie School (HBS) was established to provide children in Kigamboni with access to high-quality English-medium education close to home. Beyond academic excellence, the school is committed to ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and holistic care of every child throughout their educational journey, including during daily transportation to and from school.
To support safe and efficient student transportation services, HBS is seeking a responsible and caring School Bus Attendant to join its operations team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring students are supervised, safe, and comfortable while traveling, while maintaining positive communication with parents and guardians.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and ensure the safety of students during boarding, transit, and disembarking
- Verify that every student is properly seated and secured before the bus departs
- Account for all students using the daily attendance register and report absences immediately
- Assist young children with school bags, uniforms, and personal needs during transportation
- Maintain discipline and promote a calm, friendly, and respectful environment inside the bus
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents and guardians at pickup and drop-off points
- Administer basic first aid when necessary and follow established emergency procedures
- Assist the driver in ensuring compliance with school transportation safety guidelines
- Report incidents, safety concerns, or student welfare issues promptly to management
- Support the implementation of child safeguarding and protection policies
Qualification Required:
- Minimum Form IV (CSEE) certificate
- Certificate in Early Childhood Education, Nursing Assistance, Child Care, or a related field is an added advantage
- At least one year of experience working with children in a school, nursery, daycare, or similar environment
- Patient, caring, responsible, and child-friendly personality
- Good communication skills in Swahili and basic English
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct and a clean health record
- Basic computer and smartphone literacy for attendance management and parent communication applications
- Ability to remain calm and responsive during emergencies or challenging situations
