Job Description

The Head Guide position is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all guiding operations across the company’s properties. The role focuses on developing guide training programs, maintaining high guiding standards, mentoring guides, and ensuring guests receive outstanding wildlife and safari experiences. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening guiding excellence and enhancing the company’s reputation as a leading luxury safari operator.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive guide training programs and training manuals for guides
  • Advise on and maintain high guiding department standards across all properties
  • Conduct regular walking safari and rifle-handling training sessions with selected guides
  • Assess and improve guides’ walking safari and rifle experience and competencies
  • Identify and recruit suitable local guide candidates in collaboration with the People & Culture Department
  • Provide training for new trainee guides in photographic tourism, African flora, and fauna interpretation
  • Develop and update training materials to support guide development
  • Work with management to develop new safari routes based on guest interests and experiences
  • Provide regular guidance on guest etiquette and service excellence during daily sessions
  • Manage the ordering, storage, and stock control of guiding equipment
  • Identify equipment requirements for safari vehicles and guiding operations
  • Collaborate with the Mwiba Concession Manager to identify and develop new game-driving road networks
  • Oversee guide allocation and deployment across all Mwiba Holdings properties
  • Coordinate with agents and the Arusha office to ensure exceptional guest hosting and experiences
  • Ensure guiding department projects are completed within approved budgets and available resources
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports and budgets related to guiding operations
  • Ensure guests receive high-quality and unique safari experiences
  • Collaborate with the Lodge Manager to maintain high camp standards and presentation
  • Compile monthly reports for management, social media, and company websites

Qualification required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a relevant field
  • FGASA Level III qualification
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • More than 6 years of guiding experience in luxury safari environments
  • Extensive knowledge of Tanzanian ecosystems, wildlife, flora, and fauna
  • Experience in guide training and development programs
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent mentoring and coaching abilities
  • Physical and mental resilience for remote field operations
  • High level of professionalism and passion for wildlife conservation
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical, evaluation, and problem-solving skills
  • Innovative approach to training and operational improvement
