Full Job Description

The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade mandated to regulate and enforce legal metrology standards in Tanzania. Established under the Executive Agencies Act, Cap. 245, the Agency plays a key role in ensuring fairness, transparency, and accuracy in trade measurements while protecting consumers and supporting economic development through effective service delivery.

As part of its efforts to support youth empowerment and professional development, WMA invites applications from qualified, motivated, and dynamic Tanzanian graduates to fill Two (2) volunteer positions for the post of Public Relations Officer II. The programme provides an opportunity for graduates to gain practical experience in communication, stakeholder engagement, public awareness campaigns, and media-related activities within a public institution setting.

The Public Relations Officer II will support communication and public engagement activities aimed at promoting the Agency’s services, enhancing public awareness, and strengthening relationships with stakeholders. The role requires individuals with strong communication skills, creativity, and the ability to work effectively in media and public relations environments.

Key Responsibilities:
• Liaise with communication and advertising agencies on public awareness activities
• Participate in the implementation of marketing and communication plans
• Receive and document suggestions and feedback raised by stakeholders
• Collect and process information from various communication sources
• Collect data related to market studies and e-service needs
• Implement awareness and sensitization campaigns for the Agency
• Segment customers and stakeholders in order to launch targeted communication campaigns
• Prepare journals, bulletins, fliers, posters, and other communication materials
• Capture, process, and store still and video images for communication and documentation purposes
• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisors

Qualifications and Experience:
• Holder of Bachelor Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Communication, or other related qualifications from recognized institutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prepare communication and promotional materials effectively
• Knowledge of media relations, public awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement
• Creativity and ability to work in dynamic communication environments
• Computer literacy and familiarity with communication technologies and digital platforms
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

General Conditions:
• Applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years
• Applicants must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) with reliable contacts, including postal address, email address, and telephone numbers
• Applicants must attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates, academic transcripts, and birth certificates
• Applicants must have two guarantors who are Public Servants
• Applicants must attach an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority
• Applicants must be willing to volunteer in the respective assigned area
• Applicants must attach a copy of the National Identification Card (NIDA)
• Applicants must not have been convicted by any Court of Law for criminal or disciplinary offences and must possess good conduct and acceptable moral character within the community
• Applicants must not have been employed by any Public Institution since graduation
• Testimonials, Provisional Results, Statements of Results, and Form IV and Form VI Results Slips shall not be accepted
• All foreign academic certificates must be recognized by the relevant authorities, namely TCU, NECTA, or NACTVET. Applicants applying for positions requiring a specific GPA must attach a GPA Calculation Certificate issued by TCU
• The volunteering programme is strictly intended for skills development and acquisition of work experience and shall not be construed as a basis for automatic employment in the Public Service
