Logistics Planner
Job Description
Logistics Planner at Twiga Cement is a full-time position based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania under Simba Cement, part of the Heidelberg Materials Group. The role focuses on planning customer deliveries, coordinating transport logistics, ensuring timely order fulfillment, and maintaining efficient distribution operations. The successful candidate will support daily logistics planning activities while ensuring customer satisfaction, cost efficiency, and compliance with safety and operational standards.
The position requires close coordination with transporters, logistics teams, customers, and transport coordinators to ensure accurate route scheduling, timely deliveries, and effective communication throughout the distribution process. The role also involves identifying operational challenges, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining accurate logistics documentation and transporter databases.
Key responsibilities include:
- Fulfilling customer delivery requirements
- Planning daily sales orders and publishing route schedules on time
- Identifying delivery risks and implementing corrective actions
- Ensuring Proof of Deliveries and related documents are returned within required timelines
- Identifying carry-over orders and providing customer feedback
- Downloading and managing orders from ERP systems using Microsoft Excel
- Allocating orders to transporters using cost-effective delivery solutions
- Communicating with transport coordinators to meet customer needs
- Informing customers about transport allocation or shipping changes
- Developing knowledge of routes, terrain conditions, and customer delivery requirements
- Performing administration tasks related to transporters and logistics databases
- Maintaining transporter contact databases and updating transport rates
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with transporters
- Confirming truck availability for upcoming delivery schedules
- Ensuring accurate load feedback and transport information
- Supporting a reliable and efficient delivery operation
- Complying with OSHA requirements and environmental regulations
- Adhering to Heidelberg Materials Group compliance policies and business conduct guidelines
- Performing other duties assigned by supervisors
Requirements include:
- Diploma in Logistics or related field
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in order generation, order fulfilment, or distribution environment
- Good understanding of order fulfilment and distribution business processes
- Knowledge of geographic regions and transportation business models
- Understanding of customer delivery requirements and customer service orientation
- Proficiency in relevant ERP system modules
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to respond quickly and proactively to changing delivery demands
